A practical conference - for professional growth and experience exchange
2020 has been a challenge for many, but particularly for teachers. We had to adapt and adjust to the new reality and massive teaching online, with the same or even higher expectations from us. It's high time we worked through what we have learned and achieved during this time.
SELF is a project for teachers from Russia and this is the third conference we are organising. We are expecting professionals who want to celebrate with us a year of conscious living and teaching in the times of Corona virus and share the lessons we have learned from this experience.
This time the topics include: - theory and practice of self-care - soft skills for teaching - planning and time-management - life-hacks (personal experience) - anti-burnout - motivation and personal efficiency
The event will take place on April, 18 in English on Zoom.
For the conference day on April, 17 in Russian please check this page.
Sleep... Most of us have no idea that it takes a third of our lives. But, most importantly, we have no idea that depriving ourselves of this activity may have dramatic mental and physical consequences. How does it refer to teachers? Ask yourself when was the last week you had a decent 7-8-hour sleep for 7 days in a row? If you find it hard to remember, please, join our discussion on what effects the lack of sleep might have, how to improve the quality of sleep and how to plan proper sleep into your teaching routine

Time goes by so fast..and now what?
The teacher's job is considered to be as one of the most challenging and tiring ones. No matter how fulfilled we feel because we shape minds and we train human beings to be the best they can be, time is often against us. One of the major causes of burnout is that we don't have enough time to do all the things we want to. In this talk, I'm going to give some of the reasons why we feel we don't have time and then some practical solutions will be given, based on my experience, on how we can manage our time effectively.

Emotional Intelligence in Teaching Profession
Emotional intelligence (EQ) has been one of the buzz words in theory and practice of Leadership for several decades. However, EQ approaches are not that widely used outside of this particular area of business and management training. If we look closer at five key elements of EQ - self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, social skills - we will see that Emotional Intelligence has a much wider appeal. In my session we will discuss how mastering EQ can help to succeed in the teaching profession and look at the importance of building the right balance between the above 5 elements.

Be like Captain Marvel: A Tale about the Power of Emotions
If you're a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I am sure you know about Captain Marvel. Her story is the perfect example of how we can achieve more when we embrace the fact that we are not only about cognition. Humans are about emotion as well. In this talk, I will go over the reason why emotions are at the heart of learning and why we should welcome our emotional state to lead a better and healthier life.

Motivating Messaging
"The glass is half-empty" says the pessimist. "The glass is half-full" says the optimist. Which one are you? Can we be really summarize so plainly? The reality is simply that we can all be subject to different moods depending on everything going on around us. Can we develop soft skills to shield us from the negative things around us? Can we apply those skills to our English classes and help student develop those in parallel to their English? In this practical workshop, we are going to explore the communication skill of Motivating Messaging or how to deliver a message that engages to action.

Who is being silenced in the classroom?
The session will focus on Critical Pedagogy and the Participatory Approach. The participants will be given questions to examine their current classroom practices in view of specific considerations, such as 'language is a political act', world Englishes and which English 'should' be taught, English as Lingua Franca and native vs non-native teachers question, identity and power relations (which 'normality' is shown in the materials we use?), plurilingualism and multicompetence (are we teachers unwittingly creating the idea that our students shouldn't be using their other languages and competencies when communicating in English?), hidden curriculum, power language, and various literacies. The participants will also be presented with the techniques of Dialoguing and Problem posing which can be used in the classroom. By the end of the presentation, teachers will have a list of ideas to consider when planning and teaching lessons that encourage a fairer, more inclusive world.

Mindfulness Matters - Awakening the mindful self
I am truly grateful for this opportunity to share my very own personal experience of burn out and how that made me discover the benefits of Mindfulness. In addition to that, there will be some sharing of some powerful quotes and tales inspired by the Buddhist tradition (and a short meditation). I would also like to analyse the challenges of the current times, provide some simple, yet effective tools that it is possible to apply in order to be happier and more fulfilled. Finally, some empowering benefits of the power of the here and now.
